Region of Peel Confirms Recognition for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Region of Peel Council voted on September 9th to formally recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30.

In observance of this day, Regional buildings will be closed, and services will operate on a holiday schedule.

Regional Council designated September 30th as a paid holiday for 2021 exclusively and asked that The Region assess how best to recognize National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on an annual basis.

Quote:
“The Region will recognize this important day and commits to providing learning to staff throughout the year. Education is foundational to understanding our role as Canadians, our role as a municipal government, and our role in reconciliation with Canada’s Indigenous peoples.” – Nando Iannicca, Chair, Region of Peel
