The Town of Caledon’s Tree Seedling Program is returning in 2024. Caledon residents, businesses, and schools can now place online orders for potted trees and shrubs, bundled seedlings, and mulch mats on the town’s online storefront.
The town says it’s an affordable way to enhance a property’s green space, reduce the impacts of climate change, improve air quality, and help maintain Caledon’s green, rural charm. The Tree Seedling Program has added more than 199,000 trees to Caledon’s tree canopy and is on track to hit 200,000 this year.
“The Tree Seedling Program has supported Caledon’s climate change initiatives since 2002 and it is incredible that 200,000 trees sold is on the horizon,” said Mayor Annette Groves. “Participating in this program means you’re not just improving your landscaping – you’re playing a role in keeping our Town green for generations to come.”
The following inventory of Ontario native plants is available through this year’s program:
· Potted Trees: red oak, silver maple, sugar maple, red maple, red/silver cross maple, white birch, tamarack, and American basswood.
· Potted Shrubs: ninebark, staghorn sumac, American hazelnut, smooth serviceberry, hackberry, nannyberry, and red raspberry.
· Bundled bare-root seedlings: white pine, white spruce, white cedar.
· Cocofibre mulch mats.
The online store can be found on the town’s website and your order needs to be placed by Monday, May 6. Residents are encouraged to place their orders as soon as possible as tree inventory is on a first-come, first-served basis. Tree orders will be ready for pickup on Saturday, May 25.
