Weapons charges laid after gunshots heard

Provincial Police have arrested and charged six people with numerous firearm-related charges after an incident in the Town of Caledon.

On Friday, Jan. 12 around 2:10 a.m. officers were dispatched to the area of Madawaska and McCormack Roads after reports of gunshots. Two people were arrested shortly after police arrived. Police then called in an OPP Emergency Response Team and Canine and Tactics Units which led to five other arrests at a residence later in the day. Police say several prohibited firearms and ammunition were recovered in the investigation.

A 25-year-old from Cambridge faces four firearms charges along with failing to comply with a release order. Four Caledon residents aged 20, 21, 22, and 23 along with a 23-year-old from Brampton have each been charged with three weapons offences including possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm.

All six suspects are being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
