Caledon OPP Charges Driver With Impaired Operation by Drugs

Officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver for impaired operation by drugs.

On November 10, 2022, at approximately 10:53 a.m., an officer conducting a general patrol came across a driver sleeping in a vehicle parked on the side of the road. This occurred on The Grange Side Road, near Horseshoe Hill Road. The investigation led officers to arrest the driver for impaired operation and was transported to the Caledon OPP Detachment where tests were performed by a Drug Recognition Evaluator (a DRE officer).

Chelsea DUBE, 28, of Orangeville, was subsequently charged with:

• Operation while impaired – drugs

• Personation with intent to avoid arrest, prosecution or obstruct justice

The vehicle was impounded for a period of seven days, and the driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days. The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on January 26, 2023, to answer to the charges.

Drivers who are impaired by drugs or alcohol continue to pose a significant threat on Ontario roads. In order to enhance the OPP’s ability to detect and evaluate drug-impaired drivers, the organization continues to expand the Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) program and increase the number of officers trained in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST).

With the holiday season fast approaching, the need to make alternate arrangements to arrive home safely will increase. In Caledon, Home James offers a FREE designated driver service. The program runs from November 25 to December 31, every Friday and Saturday from 9:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. (excluding December 24). More information is available at: https://www.homejames-caledon.ca/
