Caledon Working Towards Green Development Program

The Town of Caledon is creating its first Green Development Standards (GDS) program to improve the sustainability and livability of new communities in Caledon.

The GDS program outlines climate-friendly design standards that all new residential, commercial and industrial development in Caledon must comply with. This program focuses on minimizing energy use and greenhouse gas emissions, adapting to a changing climate, protecting and enhancing the natural environment and creating walkable communities.

Caledon’s population is expected to triple by 2051 and these standards will be a critical tool to ensure growth does not jeopardize the Town’s ability to address climate change and that new development benefits current and future residents.

The GDS program is expected to be in place by summer 2023.
