Labour stoppage at local school board averted

Support staff at the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board are not hitting the picket lines.

The school board has reached a tentative agreement with the Dufferin-Peel Educational Resource Workers Association, the union representing education resources workers and designated early childhood educators.

“We value our relationships with our bargaining units and are pleased to be able to make this announcement,” said Marianne Mazzorato, director of education. “This is great news for parents, guardians, students and staff alike, and ensures a continuity of learning with no disruption to services.”

The union, which represents 1,200 staff at the school board, had announced its intent to take strike action in late March. The plan was to walk off the job one day a week beginning the last week of April.

The tentative agreement does need to be ratified by both sides.
