Some of us spend much of our lives trying to figure out what career path makes us happy and fulfilled. Just what is our niche?
For Mercedes Gubert the answer came early. This life-long Caledon lady was captivated from a very early age by the beauty industry and makeup products. Her creative streak and love for the arts stayed with her throughout school and eventually led her to pursue a career as a make-up artist and hair stylist.
“A two-year program at Sheridan College and Cosmetic Techniques and Management taught me all different types of beauty techniques including bridal, special effects and even hairstyling” Mercedes explains. “I then continued my education and went to Guelph-Humber to pursue my business degree.”
Mercedes worked freelance, building up a clientele, and her business grew steadily. Soon the decision was made to hire a team to assist her with weddings and other special event services. Mercedes Lee Beauty opened in 2012. And the business grew more.
In 2018 the successful entrepreneur launched a new skincare line “Artist Approved” out of a desire to create a high end, premium-quality beauty brand suitable for both professional artists and everyday makeup connoisseurs alike.
“Sometimes we complicate things when we don’t need to” says Mercedes. “Artist Approved, which is near and dear to our hearts, is a botanical-based skincare line and is gentle, uncomplicated and extremely effective. The way skincare should be.” Some of the beneficial ingredients in the line include Japanese Green Tea, Aloe Vera, Shea Butter, Jojoba Oil, Avocado Oil, Cucumber Extract, Chamomile Extract, Almond Oil, and Grape Seed Extract.
The company is also very proud to announce that they are now partnering with the Hudson’s Bay Company, Canada’s longest standing and most iconic department store. “Definitely a full circle moment as I once worked at The Bay while in college and today my very own beauty brand is available for purchase there!” Mercedes beams. “Networking has been instrumental in achieving this dream. My advice to entrepreneurs would be to never stop meeting new people; you never know the next business opportunity that can arise from that.”
