Caledon seeks input on illegal land use problem

The Town of Caledon is looking for input from residents to help support enforcement initiatives around illegal land use by trucking operators.

In 2019, Caledon launched the Illegal Land Use Taskforce to address growing land use issues related to the parking and storage of tractor-trailers and commercial vehicles. In the last few years, more than 300 properties have been investigated for potential illegal truck storage violations.

In a release, the town says it is tackling illegal operations and working to ensure the local trucking and real estate industries are clear about the rules to address a variety of impacts. It details the impacts of illegal land use including damage to sensitive soil and water, paving over farmland, air, light and noise pollution, and safety concerns due to increased traffic and large trucks on residential roads and near busy neighbourhoods.

Municipal law enforcement will also hold a workshop at the General Committee Meeting on Wednesday, May 1 to discuss the next steps. Residents can provide their input through the online survey by Friday, April 26 at haveyoursaycaledon.ca/illegallanduse.
