Caledon council passes 2024 budget

The 2024 budget will have a tax rate increase of 5.97% including the portion for the Region of Peel and school boards. The impact on $670,000 worth of residential assessment will be approximately $337.

“We listened to our residents in an environment of high inflation and approved a responsible budget. The level of services was improved without a significant tax increase,” said Mayor Annette Groves. “I thank our Town Council and budget staff for their support in finalizing this budget that ensures the long-term sustainability of the Town’s services for its residents and businesses.”

Service improvements include traffic calming, Caledon East Dog Park improvement plan, playground improvements, Bolton Rotary Bandshell funding, Mountainview Road reconstruction, invasive species, Humber River staffing, Di Gregorio Bocce Court elevator, two by-law officers, trail maintenance on Trans Canada Trail, gateway maintenance and invasive species. Fewer reserves to fund capital projects were used than in the past five years.

“The Town of Caledon’s 2024 Budget offers the balance, alignment, opportunities, and sustainability to help meet requirements, service delivery needs, quality of life expectations, and fiscal responsibility,” said Robert Cummings, Commissioner of Finance and Chief Financial Officer. “I thank Council for their support of the budget process and my team for their dedication to providing excellence in municipal finance.” The document’s approval also allows for the hiring of five new firefighters.
