Weather warning for Peel Region

A winter weather travel advisory has been issued for Mississauga, Brampton, and Caledon that’s in effect all day and night.

The national weather agency says this will be the first “significant snowfall” in a few weeks, with hazards that include locally heavy snowfall with total accumulations of five to 10 centimetres, reduced visibility in heavy snow, strong northwesterly winds gusting up to 70 km/h Thursday evening into night, and peak snowfall rates of two to four centimetres per hour.

“Snow is forecast to begin Thursday morning. The snow will continue through the day before tapering to lake effect flurries Thursday evening, particularly for areas north and west of the GTA,” according to the advisory. “Travel may be hazardous due to sudden changes in the weather.”

Environment Canada is also warning Peel residents to “consider postponing non-essential travel” until conditions improve.
