Province to scrap licence plate renewals

Premier Doug Ford said he’s going to scrap licence plate renewals.

Ford spoke to reporters at a Mississauga gas station Tuesday morning where he said the legislative change will happen soon. Until that happens, drivers must still renew their plates every two years. Not doing so could get you a fine of up to $1,000.

Back in 2022, the Ontario government scrapped the annual renewal fee of $120, which included the sticker you’d place on your rear plate.

Renewing until the government implements the change. If you don’t remember your renewal date, you can sign up for a digital reminder.
