An Awesome and Move-ing Experience for Caledon Youth!

An Awesome and Move-ing Experience for Caledon Youth!

There’s lots to be said for modern-day technology. Easy access to information, efficiency, increased communication, learning opportunities, to mention a few.

But if you’re young, and young at heart, you should also feel moved to, well, just move.

Youth presents us with opportunities to breath fresh air, make friends, learn team skills and engage our brains and bodies with exercise that builds muscle strength and inner strength. Oh yes, and fun. We can do this all at any age of course but somehow it just seems easier to fit in while we’re young. Plus, it sets the stage for healthier behaviour and habits later in life.

Youth soccer is definitely a great solution for getting the kids out of that head-down-glued-to-screen position and into the great outdoors.

The South Caledon Soccer Club (SCSC), with the exception of a short hiatus due to Covid, has succeeded in putting hundreds of young people onto the field every season and enjoying the sport.

SCSC playerSCSC is a proud, local, community-based house league organization that was established in 2011. Their goal is to offer children, ages 3 to 15 years, an introduction to recreational team sports with a focus on families, fun, fitness and fair play. Families come from the communities of Valleywood, Southfields, Inglewood, Cheltenham, Caledon Anthem, and Mayfield West.

Teams are balanced to promote healthy competition and all coaches, assistants, and convenors are volunteers. Their support is essential.

For SCSC giving back and charity are important attributes for the club. Together with their community, sponsors and volunteers the club donates a significant amount of money to Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation each year in support of cancer research. A certain amount of the club’s profits is intentionally set aside for this and, as well, all proceeds from the Opening and Closing Day festivals. The festivals include a variety of games and activities, and a BBQ. As well registered members attend mini-festival/training days. A team photo, uniform and end-of-season trophies are all included in the registration fee.

The club’s games are played at Lina Marino Park. Lina, after whom the park is named, was instrumental to their growth in the early years and was devoted to promoting a family-friendly soccer experience.  SCSC hold their practices at both Lina Marino and Southfields Parks.

Sponsors of the club include a number of local businesses and SCSC points out that they could not operate without them. If you are interested in sponsorship opportunities, please contact SCSC through their website.

Registration opens on January 8th for the 2024 season and can be done online.
