Caledon Roadside Gold: A Poem by Shelly Ives

Our beautiful town: you do us proud,
your autumn glory to unfold.
All crimson corners, umber edges and glorious Caledon roadside gold.

Throughout the year, we “to and fro” and let our busy lives be told
but always through the warmth and weight of lovely Caledon’s roadside gold.

But recently, we pause  and frown, our worry growing deep and cold:
Because we’ve glimpsed the beginning of the end of Caledon’s roadside gold.

For tho’ our green and rolling hills endure as in long years of old,
we realize “progress” is aiming for that valuable Caledon roadside gold.

All the brush and meadows; the farms and fields and streams so cold,
will soon belong in portfolio’s; bought up… our Caledon roadside gold.

And as the trucks and traffic grow, and landmarks of our Town are sold…
we hold back tears as we travel through endangered Caledon roadside gold.

How long is left, we sadly muse – how many years will we still behold
the very reason we live and love here…that glorious Caledon roadside gold.
