Peel Public Health encourages residents to get their annual flu shot this fall to help protect against influenza. As the flu spreads easily from person to person, the annual flu shot remains the best defense against the virus.
The flu vaccine is now available to those who are eligible. Residents can make an appointment to get their FREE flu shot at the following locations:
- Family doctors’ offices and walk-in clinics for adults and children over 6 months of age.
- Participating pharmacies for adults and children aged 2 and over.
- Individuals without a health card can get a flu shot from a community health centre or at a pharmacy.
Eligible residents should check with their health care providers regarding availability. Please note that Peel Public Health COVID-19 vaccination clinics will not be offering the flu shot.
Getting the COVID-19 vaccine at the same time as the flu shot
- Individuals 5 years and older can get the flu shot at the same time, or any time before or after the COVID-19 vaccine.
- Children 6 months to under 5 years of age should not get other vaccines (such as the flu shot) sooner than 14 days before or after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.
“Respiratory illnesses are most common over the fall and winter months, making now the ideal time for residents to get the flu shot in addition to staying up to date with their COVID-19 vaccination. Paired with protective measures such as staying home when ill and masking for 10 days after being symptomatic, vaccinating for currently circulating viruses will help to protect yourself and others.” – Dr. Kate Bingham, Acting Medical Officer of Health.
