This is the time to find and crush the LDD egg masses if you didn’t get to them last year. They show up now like a small whitish bump on the bark of the trunk or the undersides of branches. The photo (above) shows one on a branch with a dime for comparison.
I have been removing them from all of our Fountainbridge Park boulevard trees and if every neighbourhood pitched in it could save some of our local trees.
My dog and I have been hiking every morning on the HVHTA trail in Bolton, and unfortunately there are more egg cases than I could count just on the trees close to the river path. This could be another bumper year for the caterpillars.
