Butterflies on window

On November 8th residents and media joined with invited dignitaries at Headwaters Health Care Centre to experience The Butterfly Bereavement Project a beautiful, memorial art installation. Over 1,000 beautiful, handcrafted butterflies currently arc across the windows of the Ambulatory Care wing, overlooking the sidewalk leading to the main entrance. The resulting display commemorates National Grief & Bereavement days throughout the month of November and is a poignant, physical representation of our community members honouring loved ones they have lost.

Butterflies on windowCreated in partnership with the Hills of Headwaters Collaborative, Bethell Hospice and Hospice Dufferin, this project is an initiative over a year in the making. Earlier this year, area residents visiting participating community partners such as Caledon Meals on Wheels, Caledon Community Services, Canes Community Care, King Nursing Home, Town of Caledon, and North Star Montessori School were invited to personalize a vellum butterfly in memory of a loved one. Each butterfly created and gathered for the display is unique and many carry personal messages of love and remembrance on their wings.

We encourage everyone to take a moment during November and visit this wonderful installation. While you are there, make sure you pick up information about the resources available locally should you need support during the bereavement process.
