Mayor and Five Councillors Attend AMO And Advocate For Caledon

This week, a delegation, led by Mayor Allan Thompson advocated for Caledon at the annual Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) conference from August 14 to 17, 2022.

“We brought forward the most important and pressing issues facing Caledon to our provincial colleagues including our need to direct our own local planning,” said Mayor Allan Thompson. “This forum gave us the opportunity to discuss our needs and priorities with our provincial partners and provide a local lens. We benefit greatly when we share our priorities and work together to advance what is most important to us as a Town.”

At this year’s conference, the Caledon delegation with Mayor Allan Thompson, Ward 1 Area Councillor Lynn Kiernan, Ward 2 Regional Councillor Johanna Downey, Ward 2 Area Councillor Christina Early, Wards 3/4 Regional Councillor Jennifer Innis, Ward 5 Area Councillor Tony Rosa and CAO Carey Herd brought forward council-approved positions on a number of issues, including:

  • Securing the Caledon-Vaughan GO Line
  • Directing local planning matters
  • Supporting municipal action on climate change
  • Developing a framework for municipal financial stability
  • Investing in public infrastructure specifically roads, servicing and stormwater
  • Ensuring access to affordable high-speed internet

Advocacy on council-endorsed positions will continue through various advocacy tools. More information on Caledon’s advocacy work can be found at

Hosted by the City of Ottawa, this year’s AMO conference was held in-person. Caledon’s elected officials connected with colleagues from across the province and brought important issues to the attention of provincial ministers and opposition parties. AMO is a non-profit organization representing almost all of Ontario’s 444 municipal governments. AMO supports and enhances strong and effective municipal governments in Ontario and promotes the value and municipal government as a vital and essential component of Canada’s political system.
