Environment Canada has issued a freezing rain warning for parts of the province. The affected areas include Caledon and Dufferin-Innisfil.
According to the forecaster, ice buildup could reach four centimetres and result in reduced visibility at times.
“A low-pressure system is approaching southern Ontario and will bring a mixture of precipitation to the area. Precipitation is expected to begin as freezing rain this morning and continue into the afternoon. The freezing rain is expected to transition to rain or drizzle as temperatures rise above the freezing mark,” the alert, issued early this morning, said.
“Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Utility outages may occur. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas.”
Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice buildup and icy surfaces.
