Emergency and diagnostic imaging departments expanding at Headwaters

A surge in emergency room visits at Orangeville’s Headwaters Health Care Centre is being combatted by an investment from the provincial government.

The Ontario government is investing in Headwaters Health Care Centre’s emergency and diagnostic imaging departments by renovating and expanding them. These departments will be more accessible and connect more people to the care they need, where and when they need it.

The hospital was originally built to accommodate 23,000 annual visits but the emergency department is now getting over 36,000.

“We are deeply grateful for the investment being made to renovate and expand our emergency and diagnostic imaging departments,” said CEO Kim Delahunt in a release.

“This will transform patient care and experience at Headwaters and support the teams that work in these departments. It will enable us to continue to provide excellent care, close to home, for the rapidly growing population and patient volumes that we see in Dufferin-Caledon,” she added.

The hospital believes they will be able to improve patient flow, decrease wait times and optimize the existing physical space.

Headwaters and the Ministry of Health will be working together to complete early planning and design for this project. Once future planning is complete, a construction schedule will be confirmed, and the project is tendered and awarded. The total cost of the project has not been released.

Minister of Health and Dufferin-Caledon MPP Sylvia Jones said the province is addressing the demand for emergency and diagnostic care to connect more Ontarians to convenient health care options, close to home.

“The expansion of Headwaters Health Care Centre will allow people and families in the Orangeville community to continue to access the high-quality care they need, where they need it, for years to come.”
