Update – Two Brampton teens charged after incident at Caledon high school

Two youths have been charged in connection to an investigation at a Caledon high school.

Caledon OPP officers responded to what they say was a weapon-related incident involving two teenage suspects at Robert F. Hall Catholic Secondary School.

Police said the school was placed in lockdown just after 1:30 p.m. yesterday to ensure the safety of students and staff. There were no injuries.

The investigation was a combined effort by the Community Street Crime Unit, Major Crime Unit, Central Region Canine Unit and Emergency Response Team. The lockdown was lifted just before 3:30 p.m.

A 16-year-old from Brampton was charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, trafficking of a firearm, weapon, device or ammunition, unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm and failing to comply with an undertaking. A second 16-year-old, also from Brampton, faces charges of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, trafficking in a firearm, weapon, device or ammunition and unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm.

The pair of teens remain in custody, waiting for a bail hearing in Orangeville on Nov. 20. The names of the accused are protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked the Caledon OPP at 310-1122 or Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

“We understand Tuesday’s incident has been stressful for students, staff, and parents/guardians. In this regard, we assigned specially trained support staff to attend the school yesterday. They, along with the school’s chaplaincy team and administration were, and continue to be available to provide support to any student or staff who feel they may need it,” explained Bruce Campbell, General Manager of Communications at the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board.

“Caledon OPP have indicated that they do not believe there is any ongoing threat to community safety. DPCDSB is co-operating with police in their ongoing investigation.”
