Members of the Caledon OPP Ontario Provincial Police are encouraging everyone to follow some simple rules for a safe evening of trick-or-treating.
For parents, kids could wear makeup instead of masks and make sure everyone buckles up in your vehicle when travelling from neighbourhood to neighbourhood.
OPP Constable Joe Brisebois explained it’s always a good idea to wear reflective clothing or light-up accessories in order to be seen.
“A lot of costumes are dark in colour and It gets dark early now so do your best to be seen while on the sidewalks and roads.”
He added drivers need to be on high alert as excited kids pursue piles of candy.
“The best advice I can give is slow down and be extra careful of pedestrians and other drivers. Take your time out there.”
For trick-or-treaters, travel with a group of friends or adults, and make sure treats are approved by an adult.
The warmer-than-usual weather will continue tonight with temperatures forecasted to be in the high teens, but there is a 70 per cent chance of showers.
OPP officers will be out in their usual costumes to ensure everyone has a safe and happy Halloween.
