Caledon community grant application process opens

The fall intake for the Town of Caledon’s Municipal, Agricultural and Community Grant (MACG) program is now open.

The MACG program is part of the Town’s recently rebranded Community Action Fund and supports events, projects and activities that enrich the lives of town residents. The program’s objective is to support eligible initiatives and events that align with the Town’s Strategic Plan.

The town’s Manager of Economic Development, Jason Schildroth, said they are looking for community-based organizations such as neighbourhood groups, non-profits or volunteer groups to apply.

“We are looking to make sure applicants are working on things aligned with the town’s strategic plan. We have a lot of priorities in that document but most specifically, enhancing our community, livability and vitality.”

He added events, initiatives and projects in support of the town’s goals to enhance livability in Caledon will take priority.

“We try to keep it as open-ended as we can because each organization, event and initiative is quite different. We do have specialized streams such as our Climate Action Fund which is also open right now and is geared to something specific.”

Schildroth advised anyone interested in making a grant application to take a peek at the strategic plan, located on the town’s website at https://www.caledon.ca/en/government/strategic-plan.aspx.

“It’s always a smart move to look at it. It’s a great way to strengthen an application to show a connection between a group’s work and the outcomes they are trying to achieve. We also recommend anyone interested reach out with any questions.”

He added town staff can guide people to the correct category to make the strongest case possible for funding.

There are two intakes each year with the fall version supporting projects and events taking place from December through May, and the spring intake supporting initiatives from June to November.

A total of $167,000 is available annually through the program and funding is available through the fall and spring intake application periods.

Anyone interested can visit Caledon.ca/CommunityActionFund for full details on eligibility and to apply. Applications close on Friday, November 8.
