Police charge teenager in connection with shooting incident

Provincial Police in Caledon Detachment have arrested and charged a Markham teen in connection to a shooting incident in the town last month.

On Aug. 11 just before midnight police were called to a house party known as a “Shark Tank” at a residence on Castlederg Sideroad. One person was located injured and transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre with an apparent gunshot wound.

According to Google, a “Shark Tank” party is an event where students can showcase their groundbreaking ideas and business knowledge.

A 17-year-old from Markham was located and arrested yesterday by the force’s Major Crime Unit with help from the OPP Central Region Tactics and Rescue Unit, the OPP Central Region Emergency Response Team, and the Caledon OPP Community Street Crime Unit.

The teenager faces charges of aggravated assault, discharging a firearm with intent, carrying a concealed weapon and unauthorized possession of a firearm. The five other charges they face include two counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition against a prohibition order.

The young offender remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on Sept. 20.
