Town looking for volunteers

The Town of Caledon is looking for a few dedicated citizens interested in using their knowledge and experience to serve the community as members of the Accessibility Advisory Committee (AAC).

“The town is committed to inclusivity and establishing an environment that is open and accessible for all residents and visitors,” said Steven Dickson, Commissioner of Corporate Services and Chief Legal Officer.

“This Committee will play a key role in ensuring every voice across Caledon is heard so we can continue to address barriers and empower all members of our community to live their life to the best of their ability.”

The AAC is responsible for raising community awareness surrounding persons with disabilities and provides advice and recommendations to council on ensuring a barrier-free community. The committee focuses on the review of site plans, playgrounds and community parks, according to the standards as outlined in the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).

In addition to their legislated requirements the committee will be responsible for:

  • Advise council on matters of accessibility for persons with disabilities
  • Advise and inform council of new legislation and funding initiatives
  • Advise and develop working relationships with relevant groups and individuals
  • Advise and assist with the development of education programs and promote the activities of the committee
  • Advise and inform council about accessibility issues as they arise
  • Assist in the creation and annual review of a Multi-Year Accessibility Plan
