Credit Valley Conservation issues flood watch for Orangeville area

Credit Valley Conservation (CVC) has issued a flood watch.

More than 60 millimetres of rain has fallen in the Town of Orangeville and the surrounding area after a storm on Thursday, and water levels in Mill Creek, Monora Creek and Credit River are on the rise.

With other parts of Credit Valley Conservation’s watershed seeing 20 to 40 millimetres of rain, CVC warns residents that flooding is possible, especially if more thunderstorms roll through while water levels are already high.

“Urban streams and rivers may be dangerous, especially near culverts, bridges, and dams. People are warned to stay away from all watercourses and to keep children and pets away,” the flood watch said.

The watch will be in place through Sunday, June 23.

CVC’s mandate includes all the lands that drain into the Credit River, which stretches a meandering 90 kilometres from the headwaters in Orangeville, Erin and Mono to where it empties into Lake Ontario in Mississauga.
