Do you have precious memories on a VHS tape, printed photos, film or slides somewhere in your closet and would love to transfer them to a digital format so you can share with family and friends?
Caledon Public Library (CPL) is currently receiving a percentage of ticket sales from the upcoming June 2nd Elvis event, Aloha from Caledon, to fund their new Memory Station.
Hoping to launch the Memory Station at the Albion Bolton Branch in the summer of 2023, customers will be able to convert old home movies, vinyl and audio cassette recordings, printed photographs, or slides into a digital format which can shared online.
It will be a do-it-yourself (DIY) station which will enable those with a library card to digitize materials including:
- Turn photos, film and slides into high resolution digital files to be enlarged and shared
- Capture analog video to a Secure Drive (SD) card or USB drive
- Use a flatbed scanner for other objects like scrapbooks, recipes and more
- Scan historical documents
Digital files can be saved to a USB key or external hard drive, or uploaded to an online file sharing site.
“Preserving your priceless memories, archiving, and sharing them can be a powerful way to connect with friends and family. We want to make the process easy,” states Colleen Lipp, CEO and Chief Librarian. “We appreciate Dreamers Entertainment and Stage Academy Theatre Association for granting us this opportunity to fundraise in conjunction with their amazing Elvis Tribute concert on Friday, June 2.”
Presented by Dreamers Entertainment & Stage Academy Theatre Association, in support of Caledon Public Library, Elvis: Aloha from Caledon will run 7:30 – 10pm with seating outside (weather permitting) in the Albion BoltonFairgrounds parking lot. Tickets can be purchased at CPL’s Albion Bolton branch or online at https://caledon.library.on.ca/elvis/ Concessions will be sold at the event (cash only) and proceeds will go to CPL.
It will be an evening of Elvis favourites with two Elvis Tributes, starring Bruno Nesci, one of the 2022 top 5 finalists at Graceland, and featuring Eric Evangelista, a Collingwood Elvis festival grand champion, re-creating the 1970 opening show that Elvis performed at the Las Vegas Hilton. To mark the 50th Anniversary, Bruno will also be re-creating the full-scale concert of Aloha from Hawaii.
Unable to attend the Elvis Tribute event on June 2? Consider donating directly to Caledon Public Library in support of the Memory Station and all of our upcoming innovations for the community to enjoy. As Elvis would say, “Thank you, thank you very much.”
