Town of Caledon Staff Succeed in Prosecuting Illegal Trucking Operator

An investigation that began in November of 2021 when a resident submitted a complaint to the Town’s Municipal Law Enforcement team has concluded with the Town of Caledon successfully prosecuting illegal trucking operator, 12501058 Canada Inc., and resulting in a $45,000 fine and a prohibition order.

On February 16, 2023, after another attempt to delay the hearing was denied, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice heard the trial. In exchange for a guilty plea, the prosecution offered a reduced charge of $25,000. Counsel for the defence declined this offer and proceeded to trial, resulting in a conviction where 12501058 Canada Inc. was found guilty of using 14455 Dixie Road contrary to the Town’s zoning bylaws. The defendants were handed a prohibition order – which mandates illegal operations must cease on the property – and a $45,000 fine – a substantial fine for this conviction.

To help Town staff fight illegal trucking operations, residents are encouraged to report suspected illegal trucking facilities when they see them. If you see a property that you believe is illegally, improperly, or unsafely storing trucks please contact Service Caledon by dialing 311 or by email at [email protected].
