Caledon Community Services (CCS), a leading non-profit organization in Caledon supporting people of every age with basic needs and beyond, is gearing up for its fourth annual Velocity Ride for seniors in need. This fun and unique fundraising and community building event attracts families and experienced cyclists from around the province to enjoy the beautiful trails, and the scenic and challenging road routes in Caledon. Velocity kicks off this year’s Celebrate Caledon festivities taking place in the community on Canada Day, July 1st, 2022. CCS is fundraising to support their work on the health, safety, security, connectiveness of seniors, improving the quality of life, supporting aging in place and helping seniors avoid the negative impacts of isolation while maintaining their independence and living their best lives.
Cycling in-person returns this year and riders can create a team, ride individually or with family and friends by choosing from one of the four predetermined routes for the 100 km, 50 km road routes or one of two family friendly, 25 km and or 10 km trailway routes along the renowned Caledon Trailway. An option is still available for those that do not want to ride in the planned in-person ride to create a ride of their own, hosted in their own community, similar to last year’s virtual ride while still raising funds for this stellar cause. Even those that don’t want to ride can get involved and help out and make a difference simply by fundraising or donating to support a rider or a team already registered. According to OBB website, Caledon offers an “impressive place to escape the confines of the city and explore by bike.”
The Town of Caledon has been awarded recognition as a Bicycle Friendly Community Level designation (Bronze) by Share the Road Cycling Coalition.
