Region of Peel Recognizes National Day of Mourning

Today marks National Day of Mourning, a day dedicated to acknowledging those who have lost their lives or suffered health consequences due to workplace hazards. Flags across the Region will be lowered to half-mast, and a moment of silence will be observed at 11:00am to remember those who are injured, ill, and lost their lives at work. Residents are encouraged to join one of the many events and ceremonies across the country, or light candles, in honour and reflection of the thousands of lives forever changed.

“On this day, we honour and remember those whose lives were lost during a workplace injury. My thoughts are with the loved ones whose lives will forever be changed. This day aims to renew our commitment to workplace health and safety to ensure the needs of our workers are recognized and met at all times,” said Regional Chair Nando Iannicca.
