Bolton Resident Urges Neighbours To Pitch In To Save Trees

A message from JSGB columnist Skid Crease who lives in Bolton’s south hill…

Egg batches on treesThis is the time to find and crush the LDD egg masses if you didn’t get to them last year. They show up now like a small whitish bump on the bark of the trunk or the undersides of branches. The photo (above) shows one on a branch with a dime for comparison.

I have been removing them from all of our Fountainbridge Park boulevard trees and if every neighbourhood pitched in it could save some of our local trees.

My dog and I have been hiking every morning on the HVHTA trail in Bolton, and unfortunately there are more egg cases than I could count just  on the trees close to the river path. This could be another bumper year for the caterpillars.
