Region of Peel Announces Sean Baird as Commissioner of Human Services

The Region of Peel announces Sean Baird as the Commissioner of Human Services as of February 28, 2022. Sean will be taking over from Janice Sheehy, who is retiring after over three decades of public service in Ontario, including six years at the Region of Peel as Commissioner of Human Services.

Sean currently serves as the Commissioner of Service Excellence and Innovation, a role he assumed in July of 2018.  Sean comes to this new role with a strong background in Human Services. Before arriving at Peel Region, Sean held a number of increasingly senior positions with the Ontario Workplace Safety and Insurance Board, which provides income and employment support for over 500,000 injured workers annually and insurance coverage for over 300,000 employers across Ontario.

Sean’s background includes a long list of educational and professional accreditations. Among them, he holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Master of Science in Business Administration from the University of British Columbia’s Sauder School of Business.

Sean is an active contributor to the public sector and sits on several boards. He serves the Peel community as a board member of the Peel Housing Corporation. Sean is also a board member of the Institute for Citizen Centred Service (Citizen First), a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the service delivery experience for citizens when interacting with all levels of government across Canada.

With Sean’s move to Human Services, the Region’s Service Excellence and Innovation Department will become part of the Corporate Services Department, which remains under the leadership of Gary Kent.

“Sean brings to this role an extensive knowledge of human services and a history of proven leadership at the Region of Peel,” said Janice Baker, Chief Administrative Officer at the Region of Peel. “With his exemplary leadership experience, the Region will continue to deliver the highest quality critical services to Peel’s most vulnerable residents. Moreover, bringing the Service Excellence and Innovation Department into Corporate Services allows us to capitalize on Gary Kent’s extensive leadership experience as we continue to integrate our services in ways that best serve the people of this region.”
