Today at Regional Council, the 2022 Operating and Capital Budgets for Health Services, Human Services, Public Works and Enterprise Programs and Services were presented.
The 2022 Corporate Overview, which was also presented, highlighted a proposed property tax increase of 1.5% and a utility rate increase of 5.8%.
The 2022 Budget reflects $9.1 million in savings and cost avoidance found through continuous improvement efforts and other cost containment measures.
Presentation Highlights
- COVID–19 response remains Public Health’s top priority
- Increasing support to seniors through the opening of the Seniors Health and Wellness Village and implementation of two butterfly households for persons with dementia
- A new paramedic reporting station to service a growing population
- Maintenance of ambulance facilities and fleet, and support of vehicle facilities
- Maintenance of Long Term Care homes
- Supporting Peel’s vulnerable population through increased community grants
- Increasing needs based subsidies and resources for additional affordable housing units
- Implementing the Housing Master Plan to create more affordable housing
- Ensuring the state of good repair of the Peel Living housing stock
- Investment in the GE Booth Wastewater Treatment Plant
- Road construction, intersection improvements, and sustainable and active transportation
- Accommodating MTO highway widenings – 401 and QEW
- Replacement of watermains
- Road resurfacing and other state of good repair works to facilitate goods movement
Enterprise Programs and Services
- Supporting growing data integration and modernization through technology
- Reserve contributions to sustain regional infrastructure of $32B including investments to support progressive asset management
- Advancing work that contributes to a diverse and inclusive workplace and community
- Investing in climate change and energy management housing projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
- Maintain and modernize technology assets to improve efficiency and customer service
On Dec. 2, the Regional Council budget meeting will continue with presentations for Regionally Financed External Organizations including Peel Regional Police, Ontario Provincial Police and the Conservation Authorities.
Due to the efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19, there will be no public access to the Council Chambers. The meetings will be live streamed on peelregion.ca.
