OPP Officer Struck by Vehicle

A driver has struck a member of Caledon OPP.

On Thursday, November 26, 2020, at approximately 5:30 p.m., officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) spot check in the area of Bush Street and Old Main Street in the Town of Caledon.

While at the RIDE spot check, a Mandatory Alcohol Screening demand to provide a roadside breath sample was made by the officer, however, the driver refused to comply with the demand. OPP says When the driver was asked to pull into a nearby parking lot for further investigation, the driver abruptly drove off from the RIDE check and one of the officers was struck by the vehicle. The driver was followed by the officers for a short distance and was observed parking their vehicle in a driveway of a residence where they were subsequently placed under arrest.

The driver, Geeta NAIR, 45, of Caledon, was arrested, and stands charged with: Failure or refusal to comply with demand; Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle; and Resist peace officer. The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on February 11, 2021 to answer to the charges.

The officer struck by the vehicle did not suffer any injuries.
